Do Christians and Mormons Worship the Same Jesus?

You’ve probably heard people say, “Mormons are Christians, so they worship the same Jesus.” But if you actually look at what Mormonism teaches, that’s just not true.

Real Christianity is all about the Trinity—one God in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. Jesus isn’t just some regular guy who became God later. Nope. He’s fully God and fully human, eternal, and never changes. The Bible says Jesus was there “in the beginning” and “the Word was God” (John 1:1), and that “the Word became flesh and made his home among us” (John 1:14). Everything was made through Him (Colossians 1:16). He’s the one and only Savior (Acts 4:12).

But Mormonism? They say Jesus was once just a man who got bumped up to godhood. Plus, they see God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as three separate gods. That’s way different from the Bible’s clear “God is one” message (Deuteronomy 6:4).

Why does this even matter? Because if Jesus isn’t really God, then He can’t save us. The Bible says Jesus is God’s one and only Son who came down and humbled Himself to die for us (Philippians 2:5-8). He beat death by coming back to life (Romans 1:4). That’s the Jesus who gives us hope.

Mormonism’s Jesus is more like a super spiritual guy who got promoted—he’s not the eternal God the Bible talks about. Big difference.

So yeah, Christians are right when they say Mormons don’t worship the same Jesus. The Bible’s Jesus is God who became man (John 1:14). The Mormon Jesus? More like a really special spirit being.

Bottom line: If you want real forgiveness and a real relationship with God, you need the true Jesus—the eternal Son of God. Mormonism’s version just doesn’t cut it.

Bible Verses (NLT):

John 1:1 — “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:14 — “The Word became flesh and made his home among us.”

Colossians 1:16 — “For through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.”

Acts 4:12 — “Salvation is found in no one else.”

Deuteronomy 6:4 — “The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”

Philippians 2:5-8 — “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges... He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”

Romans 1:4 — “He was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
