False Gospel, True Danger: Why Mormon Doctrine Leads Away from Christ
There is a school of thought that promotes teachings from the Mormon religion as though they have relevance to Christian doctrine. But this is a profound and dangerous error. As a Christian, I must strongly rebuke the assertion that so-called Melchizedek Priesthood holders within the LDS Church trace their authority to Jesus Christ, or that angels restored a lost gospel due to some alleged “Great Apostasy.” These ideas are not only unscriptural—they are deceptive and lead people away from the true Gospel of Jesus Christ into spiritual destruction.
Mormonism, like every other false religion, offers a counterfeit gospel. It takes fragments of truth, wraps them in religious language, and replaces the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice with a system of works, ordinances, priesthood hierarchies, and temples. The Bible does not point us to secret lineages of priesthood authority, nor does it tell us that angels were sent to restore the Gospel. Quite the opposite—it warns us against such deception. Galatians 1:8–9 clearly states, “Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you.”
The Book of Mormon, and all the doctrines built upon it, are not inspired Scripture. They are false teachings rooted in a lie. They hold no value, no authority, and no truth when weighed against the Word of God. The Mormon religion claims divine revelation beyond the Bible, but those alleged revelations contradict the Gospel in every essential way. They teach that men must earn salvation through obedience and temple ordinances. But Scripture tells us plainly in Ephesians 2:8–9 that salvation is by grace through faith—not of works, so that no one may boast.
While Mormons may believe their religion is from God, the truth is that it is a spiritual deception that originated from the devil. Satan doesn’t show up with horns and pitchforks—he shows up in religious garments, speaking about Jesus while promoting a false Christ. As 2 Corinthians 11:13–14 says, “These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”
The claim that God sent angels to restore the Gospel is a direct attack on the sufficiency of Jesus Christ and the finality of His work on the cross. The real Gospel does not need to be restored. It has never been lost. Jesus Himself declared, “Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear” (Matthew 24:35). The Gospel is and always has been sufficient. It was handed down once for all to the saints (Jude 1:3), and no man or angel has the authority to alter it.
The suggestion that God bears witness to the Book of Mormon by the power of the Holy Ghost is another spiritual deception. The Holy Spirit never testifies to lies. He testifies to truth, and truth is found only in the Word of God—the Bible. Any spirit that validates a gospel other than the one preached by Christ and His apostles is not the Spirit of God. It is a lying spirit, and those who follow it are following a path to eternal damnation.
No Christian should be swayed by LDS scriptures, LDS prophets, or LDS priesthood claims. The true Gospel is found in the Bible alone. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who is the only begotten Son of God—fully God and fully man—who died for our sins, rose again, and now reigns eternally. He does not share His priesthood, His glory, or His Gospel with anyone—not with Joseph Smith, not with Mormon apostles, and not with angels masquerading as restorers.
I urge those trapped in the Mormon system to come out. Repent of your belief in a false Christ, and turn to the true and living Savior revealed in Scripture. He is enough. His sacrifice is sufficient. And His Word alone is truth.
